Open the "window"... by ~kj-n-thuytien:iconkj-n-thuytien:

                                                  Open the "window"...
                                                              ~~~
                                "A room of darkness, never been opened,
                                    darkness covers it_ the soul inside us.
                                  It's time to open, the "window" up there,
                                say hi to a new day, say hi to a new world...
                                         Now, listen to it_ melody of life
                                        just listen to it, forget yesterday!
                                     Listen to your soul, and find yourself
                                                   real meaning of life...                    "
                                                               ~~~

    On the top of the highest mountain, there was one little wind which wanted to learn about this world, especially "human". It always wondered: Why human cries? Whey they laughs? Why they're sad? Therefore, it asked Vernal Breeze, which knew everything about this world.
    -Travel the world _Vernal Breeze replied_ you, yourself have to find the answer.
    Without thinking, the young wind left with excitement, hoped to know more about human.
                                                                ~~~
    It's been twenty years since the little wind left. It's no longer the cute, little wind likes it used to be. It's grown and become a strong wind with blowing dust. Sometime, it has to stop at a river or a lake to clean itself. It starts to think this journey is a waste of time and want to give up! But it stops thinking likes that when it sees a little girl sitting on a wheelchair, putting her hand on a book, her eyes look so...white..."What is she doing?"_it wonders, shakes itself and goes near her. "The dog in this story is amazing!"_ the girls smiles happily. "She is reading? But how? She only puts her hand on pages and..."_the wind's surprised.
    -There you are, Annie! _a woman dresses in blue runs toward the girl_ It's time you saw the doctor!
    -Godmother!_the girl turns back, smiles innocently _If I keep seeing the doctor, there will be one day that I can see, right?
    -Yes..._the woman kneels down, holds Annie's hand _Of course, dear! Let's get going, shall we?
    After they've gone, the wind notices an old notebook on the ground, maybe the woman has dropped it. Too curious, the wind decides to read it. It's a journal!
"Dec, 25th
We found a little girl outside the orphanage three days ago. She was lying on the snow, calling her mom. She's better now. Her name is Annie, she's about five years old. She's blind. Her mom left her here at dawn...Annie cried a lot when we asked her about her family. Maybe her family's life is not in good condition, that's why she was left here. I don't care what kind of past she had to go through, I only know that now, she's going to live with us, likes a family. And I will become one part of her family, I'll take care of her to make up for the painful past she had to go through in such young age. I won't let her childhood drown in darkness likes many other children' I met. I'll bring her up!
Mar, 24th
It's nearly been three months since Annie starts living with us. She looks at us at her new family, I'm really happy about it. We've tried lots of kind of treatment to help Annie, even if this is really hard to succeed. Annie has to stay in bed all the time, I know that she's sad so I asked a carpenter to make her a wheel chair. She was very happy when she knew that she can go around the orphanage on that wheelchair. She smiles happily...that's the most beautiful smile I have ever seen..."
    -You buy me another book of Wordsworth? Thank you Godmother! _it's any in the garden with her Godmother, she's smiling happily. The wind looks at her surprisingly: "How can she smile happily like that when she has to suffer such thing? Why she doesn't cry at all?".
"Jul, 4th
I'm still about what Annie said earlier. She asked me if she could go to school instead of staying in bed. When I asked her why, she innocently replied: "Because I love to learn!". I couldn't help crying at that time. It's true. She's six years old now, it's time for her to learn like other children. But how can she learn when she can't see anything? She wants to read, to write like others. But what can I do to teach when she can't see? What should I do? What should I do?
Sept, 5th
I took Annie to class for invalid people this morning. There are lots kids also blind like Annie. Miss Alex will teach Annie, she's blind as well. She touched Annie's face to measure how tall Annie is. Annie quietly asked me, but still loud enough for Miss Alex to hear: "Blind people can teach blind people? Is that possible, Godmother?". Miss Alex smiled and said: "Of course dear". I saw a light in Annie's eyes, she hugged Miss Alex, said loudly: "I WANT TO BE A TEACHER LIKE YOU AS WELL! I WANT TO TEACH OTHER PEOPLE BRAILLE CODE (*)!". I'm very pleased with that. At least, she has a dream, a dream that she truly wants to make it come true...
Apr, 4th
Has to go through misery, Annie told me once that she's still luckier than many other people. She told me about a mute old man she met on the street, he used to be a beggar and spent the nights under the bridges; about a child who lost his two legs in train accident. At least, she still has a place to live, friends and us _her Godmothers and Godfathers. To thank all people who give her reasons to live, she entered the "Writing Braille code Onkyo" contest. Her entry: "Thank you for everything",  which contains all her feelings about her dark childhood, the light of hope Braille code gives her, has been in second place! I find it hard to forget what she wrote, that's a message of life that she wants everyone to know and remember:
          "Life is beautiful, isn't it, my friends_who are also invalid like me? Because I always think and learn by heart: beauty of invalid people is how we exert all our strength to move on, to go through all the pain and mostly, how we turn our weakness into our strength! With those, we'll be able to create ourselves happiness, find the path of light ! I may lost my eyes but my heart's still beating, together we'll create LIGHT...""
    The wind closes the journal, puts it on the desk, it looks outside. Annie's sitting under the almond tree. It feels something wet in its eyes: tear...It flies around Annie, blows the almond blossoms' petals in the air, some of them get stuck in Annie's hair. "Thank you...for teaching me the beauty of human...the beauty of this world..."_the wind says before flying away. Annie turns back, smiles happily: "You're welcome, my friend." Don't know if the wind heard what Annie said, we only know that the wind is now, flying to every single place on this planet, spreading the lesson it just learned. So now, you _who always lock yourselves in a room without light, open the "window" to let the light outside warmth your souls. And maybe, you will hear the trees, flowers, rivers, mountains... singing the song of our little wind:
                                                    Life is not just living!
                                                     Life is not giving up,
                                                    is not stop dreaming.
                                                   It is how you move on,
                                                  not to wait for sympathy,
                                              not only learn how to"receive"
                                                   but also how to "give"...
(*): The Braille system is a method that is widely used by blind people to read and write. Braille was devised in 1821 by Louis Braille, a Frenchman. Each Braille character or cell is made up of six dot positions, arranged in a rectangle containing two columns of three dots each. A dot may be raised at any of the six positions to form sixty-four (26) permutations, including the arrangement in which no dots are raised. For reference purposes, a particular permutation may be described by naming the positions where dots are raised, the positions being universally numbered 1 to 3, from top to bottom, on the left, and 4 to 6, from top to bottom, on the right. For example, dots 1-3-4 would describe a cell with three dots raised, at the top and bottom in the left column and on top of the right column, i.e., the letter m. The lines of horizontal Braille text are separated by a space, much like visible printed text, so that the dots of one line can be differentiated from the Braille text above and below. Punctuation is represented by its own unique set of characters.
The Braille system was based on a method of communication originally developed by Charles Barbier in response to Napoleon's demand for a code that soldiers could use to communicate silently and without light at night called night writing. Barbier's system was too complex for soldiers to learn, and was rejected by the military. In 1821 he visited the National Institute for the Blind in Paris, France, where he met Louis Braille. Braille identified the major failing of the code, which was that the human finger could not encompass the whole symbol without moving, and so could not move rapidly from one symbol to another. His modification was to use a 6 dot cell — the Braille system — which revolutionized written communication for the blind.
"NOT TAKE MIRROR!!!!!"
:iconmoondaughterstory:
I like it I think it sounds good and has a very good moral to it, I hope that you do well in the contest...there are just a few minor grammar mistakes but I think that it should be fine the way it is because it adds a uniqueness to the voice of the story being about a little girl.
:iconkj-n-thuytien:
thanks for the comment. So, will you take part in this contest?
"May you have enough...." that's the only regard I want to give you.
